Nannini Square

Italian version

It is located in the ancient fondaccio of Loro Ciuffenna. On the side of the stream is the palace of the Nannini family, built around 1300. On the façade is the coat of arms of the Nannini family, made of stone, with three hills, flowers, a star and stripes carved on it. It is said that there was a customs house.

Inside the palace there are beautiful frescoes representing the four seasons; a man with grapes, autumn; one with wood, winter; a woman with flowers, spring; one with ears of wheat and fruit, summer. The palace is called Casa Eugenia. It is said that Sor Eugenia liked to be served and when they brought things (food, dishes…) she would say: ‘The bill comes back but the money is gone!” Now there is a hotel and a restaurant in the palace.

In the square there is also a palace with a tavern, and flats.

There used to be a ‘mielaio’ (honeycomb maker) there, who used to give away bits of honeycomb.
