The ancient piazza Mercatale is located in the historical centre of Loro Ciuffenna, in a place that today remains hidden, between via Gruissan and via Roma, once crossed by two streams.
It is accessed by via Roma, remains on the right, above a car park; by via Gruissan at the very beginning, you cross a single, narrow street; by via Ricasoli.
In very ancient times (since the Middle Ages) this was the square where the market for foodstuffs and various objects was held (the animal market took place in Piazza dello Scoglio).
In more recent times (19th century) there was an important workshop where iron was worked.
